Ludlum lays out in this 'covert operations' book how to run a false flag Cyber War (a Surveillance War in the name of Corporate Profit and Total World Domination) where there is no real enemy but the ghostly figures who're set up for specific terrorist events around the world ... sound familiar to anyone? He also introduced the concept of a (cyber security, energy, drugs) czar to the general public via his books as a polemic on how the military industrial complex deals with You The People.
The ultimate spy. After fifteen years as a brilliant master spy, Nick Bryson has disappeared into anonymity as a professor at an exclusive college in western Pennsylvania-- until he's suddenly lured back into the game.
The ultimate threat. Recruited by the CIA, he's been commissioned to track the moves of the Directorate. Once, the ultra-secret intelligence agency was Bryson's training ground. Now it's a multinational terrorist conspiracy bent on global domination.
The ultimate deception. But to eliminate the core of corruption means plunging into his own past, investigating the motives of a beautiful stranger who may be his greatest downfall, and infiltrating a secret nexus of power called Prometheus that holds the terrifying clues to his past-- and the even more terrifying possibilities of the future...
Robert Ludlum implied that his knowledge of the way the insanely convoluted covert and corporate world worked was specialist, if not voluminous. Ludlum was an amazing researcher and every paragraph is dripping with incidental detail you only miss when you read some of his 'franchise continuers'. Here's a crucial paragraph from the speech of a central character bent on utter surveillance domination on a global scale, governments nullified, human liberties quashed:
"No longer will we live in fear of another Oklahoma City Bombing, another World Trade Center, another downed airline. No longer will the U.S. Government need to beg courts to place wire taps on the phones of terrorists and kidnappers and drug lords. To those who complain - and there will always be complainers - we will simply tell them this, 'Those who do not break the law have nothing to fear.'"
Aren't we there ALREADY? Didn't the horror that was his Prometheus Deception already happen? Surely, based on that paragraph alone, Ludlum would have had 'quite a lot' to say about World Trade Center 2001, and Madrid Train Bombings 2004, and London Tubes 2005, and BALI bomings, and FUKUSHIMA destruction had he survived the attempts on his life.
A film of The Prometheus Deception would be a CyberWar CorporatePlanet revelation -- oh, did I mention ANTHRAX ATTACK?
22nd October update: looks like infowars are reading Free Planet blogposts; here's a video piece they've just done on the Surveillance State and Big Brother monetising all your habits.
CCTV is 'strictly regulated', as is 'all your internet meanderings, emails and texts' and sure 'twitter isn't your enemy' when you can receive HUGE CONSEQUENCES from what you might consider to be a bit of Freedom of Speech incident you might find yourself involved in.
Bring back freedom of speech online.
